Do I need to have German language skills for the MSc GUH?

No, the course is held completely in English. For your life in Germany it is advisable to speak a little German.


When is the application deadline?

Application deadline is September 15 every year. However, please be aware that the visa process can take several months. We therefore recommend you to submit your application latest in June.

For the DAAD EPOS scholarship, application deadline is October 15 for the cohort starting in the following year.


What are the qualification requirements?

The programme requires a 4-year full time academic degree. This is a multi-disciplinary Master, so any related areas are encouraged to apply.


Can a non-European citizen apply to the course?

Yes, the MSc GUH is designed as international Master study course and applications from all over the world are welcome.

Is there any application fee?

No, there is no fee for application, but be aware of the tuition fees of 12 000€ (twelve thousand Euros) for the Master course.

Do I need to prove my English language skills if the teaching language of my higher education degree (e.g. Bachelor) was English?

Yes, you need to provide verification that your earlier study courses were completely held in English.


May I participate in only one part of the course?

Yes, each of the modules of this Masters course can be taken separately in order to receive a Certificate of Advanced Studies. After completion of one advanced module, you can decide to join the whole MSc GUH programme. Read more about this under Short Courses.


Can I get financial support for the travel expenses for my thesis if it is done in another country?

There is no funding possible from our programme but there are scholarships available and we assist in organising financial support.


How much can one expect to pay for living expenses (food, accommodation, etc.)?

The minimum amount requested by majority of German embassies abroad is ca. 930€ per month.


Can I develop my own project for the Master thesis?

Yes. When the programme starts, there are possible topics for projects proposed by the professors; however specific research projects may also be suggested by students together with national institutions.


Are there job opportunities during the Master?

There are no job offers directly at the Master programme. As this is a full-time intensive study programme, we do not encourage students to take up jobs or other activities during the course as it may directly affect their academic performance.


Are there opportunities to continue into a PhD programme after completing the MSc GUH?

Yes, the Master degree represents the first part of your potential PhD. Depending on your background and project ideas, there are several possibilities for a subsequent doctoral programme.
